Pelvic Floor Repair

The pelvic floor repair is a group of muscles, ligaments and connective tissue that support your rectum, bladder, womb (uterus) and vagina. It helps keep your organs in place, stops unintended urine leakage and increases sexual satisfaction. When these muscles become weak, you might experience a condition called pelvic organ prolapse.

Pelvic organ prolapse can lead to pain or discomfort in your lower abdomen, and it can also cause urinary or anal incontinence and a feeling that something is falling out of your vagina. You might also be diagnosed with this problem if you have a hysterectomy – surgery to remove your uterus – as this can leave other organs in your pelvic region with less support.

There are several different procedures to repair the muscles of your pelvic floor and prevent further prolapse. Our specialist surgeons are well trained in these minimally invasive surgical techniques and are dedicated to improving the quality of life of women who suffer from this common condition.

Our team offers a range of laparoscopic repair options for pelvic organ prolapse. A procedure known as a colporrhaphy can be used to repair the weakened muscle tissue that caused prolapse. The surgeon sews the weakened tissue together and this can help prevent your prolapse from getting bigger.

Another surgery we offer is a cystocele repair, which can be performed without making an incision in your abdomen. The doctor moves the prolapsed bladder into its intended position and he then sews it in place. This can be done in combination with a rectocele repair, which corrects a prolapse along the back wall of your vagina.
