But it can also be one of the hardest to master because of its complex mechanics, meta, and roles. Students will work in teams to create an original research project within the context of League of Legends. Using crowdsourced data and quantitative analysis, the student groups will answer an open research question.
Before the millions of players and billions in revenue and the esport tournaments that draw over 100 million spectators, League of Legends was just an idea. Co-founder Marc Merrill and Beck put together a core team to develop a game they originally called Onslaught. They threw themselves into the project, churning out an enormous design document and creating entirely new characters while slapping together a demonstration version that could be shown at the 2007 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
