As iPhones and other mobile devices have a mechanical life, some parts may get damaged or break over time. This could result in a screen that’s unresponsive.
In these situations, there are a few ways to turn off an iPhone without sliding the screen. This can be handy if you don’t have a functioning power button or you want to reset the phone quickly.
Press and Hold the Lock/Unlock Button
There is a simple way to turn off your iPhone without sliding the slider. All you need to do is press and hold the Lock/Unlock button located on your device, either at the top or on the right side. This is a great way to save time and energy while powering down your iPhone.
Using this method, you can shut down your device even if the buttons on your device are damaged. However, it requires a bit of time and effort.
This method works best for older models of iPhones that lack touchscreen functionality. This includes the first-generation iPhones and all of the iPod Touches.
In order to use this method, you need to enable the Assistive Touch feature on your iPhone. This feature enables you to perform a variety of tasks such as locking, taking screenshots and shutting down your device with a single click.
To get this feature on your iPhone, you need to access the Accessibility section of the Settings app. From there, you can toggle on Assistive Touch.
If you have an older model of iPhone that doesn’t have the Assistive Touch feature, you can also try a more basic method of turning off your iPhone. You can do this by opening the General menu in Settings and then tapping AssistiveTouch.
Press and Hold the Side Button
During the upgrade to iOS 11, Apple removed the Home button from many models of iPhone, resulting in the need for a new button for turning off the device. This button is called the Side Button, and it’s located on the right-hand side of the phone. It’s a great option for users who don’t have a physical home button on their iPhone or who want to avoid the hassle of trying to hold down a Home button to turn off their iPhone.
However, if your Side Button has failed and you are unable to use it, there are some other methods to help you power off your iPhone without sliding the screen. These methods include restarting your iPhone, performing a hard reset, and using Assistive Touch.
To start with, restart your iPhone by quickly pressing and releasing the volume up and volume down buttons. You may need to hold them down for a while until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
Once the Apple logo appears, release both buttons simultaneously. This should restart your iPhone and turn off the display.
Press and Hold the Volume Up Button
If you’re experiencing problems with your iPhone, such as it won’t turn on or is frozen, there are a few ways to fix the issue. One way is to perform a hard reset on your iPhone. This will force it to restart, but this isn’t great for the phone’s software, so only do it when other methods don’t work.
Another way to turn off your iPhone is to use the power off slider and SOS button. This will quickly turn off the phone and activate emergency services, but only if your iPhone isn’t locked. To access this, press and hold both the Side button on the right side of your iPhone and any of the volume buttons on the left, until the slider appears, then drag it to the right to power off the device.
This method also works if you want to close an app. To close an app, swipe up from the bottom of your screen.
You can also force kill an app by pressing and holding both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button on your iPhone at the same time. This is a good option if an app freezes but your other apps are working fine.
The other option is to perform a factory reset on your iPhone. This will restore all of your settings and remove any lingering files or applications that may have been corrupted. This can be done by using your iCloud account or iTunes.
If your iPhone isn’t turning on, you can try to use the Face ID and passcode feature to unlock it. This will work on all iPhones that have this feature, except the iPhone 7.
