Your iPhone’s LED flash can double as a flashlight, helping you see what’s around you in low-light conditions. But it’s not always easy to turn on the light, especially when you’re using an older iPhone that doesn’t have a button for it.
Thankfully, Apple added some simple controls for the flashlight on iOS 7, which makes it easier to turn on your iPhone’s flash in a few taps. This is especially useful if you’re using an iPad Pro or an iPhone X or later.
Swipe up from the bottom
Your iPhone typically alerts you when you receive an incoming call, text message, or app notification using sound or vibration. But if you find these methods inconvenient, there is another way to let you know when something is happening: by turning on the flash.
This is a great option for anyone who wants an easy way to tell when something is going on. All you have to do is swipe up from the bottom of your iPhone 12 and it will open the Control Center. The flashlight icon will be highlighted in white, meaning it is on.
You can also turn on your flashlight without opening the Control Center by pressing and holding the Flashlight button on the Lock screen or by asking Siri to turn it on or off. Once you’ve done this, the flashlight will light up instantly.
In addition to the LED flash, Apple has included a number of other ways to notify you when something is going on. One of these is called flash notification, and it uses the LED flash on the back of your phone to light up when a notification has been received.
If you don’t want to receive a flash notification every time there is an incoming call or text, or if you prefer the ability to silence the alerts altogether, this can be disabled easily. Just head to Settings > Accessibility, and then tap LED Flash for Alerts in the Audio/Visual menu.
This setting is available on iPhones with a display that is large enough to see clearly, and it only goes off when you receive notifications that are classified as “alerts.” You can disable the flash for other kinds of alerts, such as those in the Messages app.
Then, you can turn it on again whenever you’d like by swiping up from the bottom of your iPhone 12. That’ll bring up the Control Center and allow you to turn off the flashlight, or to toggle it on again if you’re having trouble with the flash. This feature is great for people with visual impairments or anyone who finds the flash too bothersome.
Swipe up from the left
The flash on the back of an iPhone has a lot of useful functions, and it can be especially helpful in dark situations. But the LED light that makes the flash go off whenever you receive a notification can be incredibly distracting, so you may wish to turn it off from time to time.
The first way to do this is by tapping the lightning bolt icon in the Camera app. If you tap it, a small menu will pop up with three options: Auto, Flash On, and Off. You can choose one of these to automatically enable the flash when the Camera app thinks you need it for a photo.
Swipe up from the bottom again
If you’re an iPhone user, you may want to know how to turn on flash on your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro. This is especially useful if you’re in a dark place or need to take a photo in low light.
To turn on the flash on your iPhone, open the Camera app and then tap the FLASH icon, which is located in the top left corner of the screen. This will give you the option to turn on flash or set it to auto mode, which uses the flash only in low light.
For those who like to take a lot of photos, turning on flash can be a great way to help ensure that your pictures come out looking sharp. But many photographers choose to turn off the flash entirely, preferring to take photos without it.
This is easier to do on an iPhone with a home button and Touch ID, such as the iPhone SE or older models. Here’s how to do it:
First, you need to make sure that the camera is in Photo or Portrait mode. When you’re in Photo or Portrait mode, tap the Flash icon (it looks like a lightning bolt) at the top left of the screen.
When the flash is off, there will be a slash through the icon. When the flash is on, there won’t be a slash, and the icon will be white.
You can also disable the flash on your iPhone by tapping on the flashlight icon in the Control Center. When you do, the flashlight icon will become gray.
Swipe up from the bottom again
The iPhone’s flash is a useful little feature that can help you take photos in low light conditions. It’s easy to turn on or off on any iPhone, but it’s more complicated on devices that have a camera notch (like the iPhone 12).
To turn on the flash, you need to swipe up from the bottom again, which will bring up the Control Center. Once you have the Control Center open, you can then tap on the flashlight icon in the upper-left corner of the screen to turn it on.
This will enable the flash to be used in conjunction with the iPhone’s camera app. That’s a great feature, as it means you can take better-looking photos in poor lighting conditions without having to use a separate external flash.
You can also set the flash to be on when using certain Camera app modes, including Video, Slo-Mo, and Cinematic. When you’re in any of these modes, you can swipe up from the record button to enable the flash for recording purposes. This will allow you to take photos in low light conditions and get better-looking portraits.
